Getting tired

Postby westing » Thu Apr 08, 2010 3:30 pm

In this current economic situation, I know the last thing we want to do is spending. Everybody talk about saving and saving. Sometimes I get tired with it. I wish I could spend as much as I used to do.

It can be a hard adjustment to make if one is used to spending like mad but it really is worth it in the long run. You need to stop thinking of saving as a negative to make it easier. Having savings is like having a safety net. If you think of it as a chore or deprivation, you will rail against it. Rather, embrace a new frugal lifestyle for a reason - security for your family or even to save for a big purchase.

I am still unsure how the world has gotten into this mess to start with. Growing up I was taught by family to not spend what I do not have and when I do spend to do so wisely. I am amazed at how many others world wide were not taught this.

I've gotten really creative in how to amuse myself lately. That's one of the good things about not spending money. I've had a lot of fun trying out new things I've never done before-like hiking.

I have developed the habit of saving even when we were still in the normal economic situation. I find this habit really help me now, as I don't need to adjust my lifestyle that much to survive in this crisis.

I have really learned a lot even though I am older. I have learned how to stick to a budget and how to save more money than I have ever saved before. I think it's really opened my eyes to a lot of the simple pleasures in life.

I would rather save when I need to and spend when I can afford to than get into debt and be stuck in a downward spiral. Right now I have at least 5 friends soon to be in a dire issues only for lack of proper planning.

I agree that sometimes it feels like everyone is saying the same thing - "save, save, save. Unfortunately, it is not something we can afford to stop saying. In fact, not talking about money issues as helped many of us get into the situations that we are now trying to escape from.

It doesn't matter how much you save, as long as you save. If you can't afford that much, that's fine. 1 dollar a day for 5 years is almost 2,000 dollars, and that's 2,000 dollars you didn't have before.

For all the shopaholics out there who like to spend more than save, look at it this way: when you save money, you're spending money on your future.

That's a good way to look at it. By saving, you can spend more in the future. The less you spend now, the more you can spend in the future. Though, to deal with this situation, I prefer to make more money than spend less, if it's possible. :D

Making more would be very good indeed. Saving is one of those things in life that we don't really want to do, but know that we need to do.

I never did get to be a spender. I came out of college worked hard to save to buy a house. Then bought a house and then the economy collapsed. I have always been saving, never got to go out to eat or buy new things and now I am right back where I started. I wish I knew what it was like to get to spend on things I want instead of the things I need.

If you feel that you don't need to save, then don't. Only you know what is right for you financially. No one else can steer you in your own right direction but you.

That's entirely true 7planters. The only thing is most people start taking money out of savings after they have built up so much and blow it. I have started putting aside a lot more than I ever have. I carefully consider every purchase and have talked myself out of quite a few. I'm learning.
