Are there other options for retirement planning other than Kiwi-saver and under my mattress? I'm not too keen on either right now. Does anyone know?

You could try an interest bearing savings account or CD's. I don't know that either are going to be enough to retire on though. Why don't you like the Kiwisaver? I thought it was a good idea. But then I thought banks were a good idea too-LOL!

I would stick with the Kiwi Saver if I were you. I have it and I have no complaints. After a while, I just kind of forget it's there, and that's the best way to save money in my opinion.

Kiwisaver
Managed Funds
DIY Stock Picking
Property/Rentals
Term Deposits
Internet Savings Account
Gold/Silver/Commodities
Finance Company

Start a business, do up cars and sell them off, go to garage sales and later sell on trade me. Lend you money to others and charge them interest.

The possibilities are endless.

I'm 21 and don't have much money at all.

The only ones I own are Kiwisaver about 3k, term deposits about 12k and on call savings for emergencies of 4k and a 30k student loan.

I just read lots on personal finance and investing.

ENP,

If you are 21, well then the sky is the limit, you can afford to go broke at least twice from that age and recover.

It is great to see someone from your generation take a real interest in finance. My guess is that you will find a niche and exploit it and make a fortune.

Anyone with such an interest in finance at your age will do well..... Would be fun to track the zero to millions of a Millionaire on this forum!!!
